Almost done. Very late night last night too. I forgot how tedious this is but I should be able to get everything sent out, well, I guess today.

I too am very interested in the Fritz RPM salt analysis. A local shop here in Houston has it for ~$50, 205g@30ppt box.

I just sent a Triton sample off for HW Reefer, before I found this thread. Unfortunately I sent it off 2 weeks after I mixed the batch(was in a drum circulating in case something happened while I was gone on a business trip). only Potassium was low @ 200, was surprised a reading of 0 for Si. I'll try to post the results here later tonight when I'm at home.

Thanks,

Leo

Did you send your tank water to be tested by Triton, or the Fritz saltwater you had in a barrel for two weeks? Interested.

Assuming this question was for me...

I had HW Reefer in the barrel for 2 weeks before I got it back from Triton.

I have not yet bought Fritz, I thought I understood that results from someone existed, was hoping they were going to be posted soon.

This is a truly awesome thread, thank you to all who have contributed.

Thanks,
Leo

Ive followed bertonis salt mix chart for years but it's now 8 years old. Is there a new chart anywhere?

I find it very interesting how similar a lot of numbers are. A good friend of mine recently switched from IO because he said it was way too inconsistent. Left film in his container etc. got sold on a different salt that is 20$ more a box and he says it tests more consistent, mixes easier, no film, etc.
I wonder if some of it is just hearsay around the LFS that convinced him to switch because plenty of people have great success with IO and your results show it's competitive in areas it needs to be.

I personally have never experienced inconsistencies with IO outside of normal expected parameter ranges for it. I've used it 99% of the time since 2007. There is really only one manufacturer so far that seems to ve inconsistent in the samples I've sent in which has been Aquaforest. But its not a good sample size to totally discredit a company. Vut it does make me hesitant to recommend that salt.

I have heard if a batch here or there being off for it's normal range but Ive also seen the same with many other major brands. IO is also one company I know of people contacting them and sending in samples of their salt. Some have ended up being truly off and a replacement batch sent and others ended up being user error.

Posted this in another thread recently

But I got at a salinity of 35
CA 427
Mg 1416

I'll have to look in my notebook for the alk later.

That Ca looks to high and agree it could be a testing error or bad batch or you didn't use up the entire bag at once and it's not mixed evenly through out so you will get highs and lows of almost all the parameters at any one time.

That's one thing I did not like about the Fritz Pro RPM is when I buy a box of salt I would much prefer to get 4 bags instead of it all in one large bag. IF I wanted a large vat of salt I would prefer it to be in a bucket and not in a huge bag in a box.

Good question. I wouldn't use AF either because of that alone. S being a major element of saltwater I would assume it has some importance but I could be wrong

These tests seem to lack any accounting for oxygen? There are relationships between dissolved oxygen and Ph. Shouldn't DO be held constant across these tests?

I don't believe pH is a useful parameter for a saltmix. CO2 levels of individual houses will be a driving factor.
