The lights are up!

Posted 05/15/2011 at 03:47 PM by Rotknee

Got the light hung a few days ago. The process was uneventful. The last time I hung the lights I had to use 4" screws to secure the lights to the stud. This time I used EZ Ancor Drywall Anchors to secure the lights to 3/4" drywall.

Here is how the lights were hung for my old 120G tank. "The BEFORE pic" Note these lights were hanging from a 39" rail.

The new tank is 14" longer and 4" wider so I had to move the position of the lights. Here are the new pics. I am using a 48" rail in these pics.

In the pics above the lights are 12" above the water ling and I am using all 70 degree optics. I may lower the lights to 10" depending on the PAR readings. Going to try and borrow a PAR meter tomorrow as I am real curious to see what the par readings are.

I am in the process of designing a light box for the lights. The box will be 4" tall and hung such that the bottom 1/2" of the lights will show. Basically it will look like this...but in the same finish as the bottom half of the stand.

I am seriously thinking about supplementing my LED's with some Fiji Purple T5's. My preference would be to hand a pair of 48" T5's or add three 24" T5's as in the pic (courtesy of gassman59) below. Just not sure yet.
