Radiata, no LFS involved

Yep, he is eating PE mysis individually stuck on the end of a fishing line, and recently has been eating some slivers of other frozen foods (crayfish, shrimp) stuck on the end of the line. Biggest issue is that he looks at and and considers the food for several seconds before eating it, which gives the most aggressive eater in the tank, the Naso tang, time to try to swoop in a get the food first. I have had to separate the lion off with eggcrate in order to give him enough privacy to eat unmolested.Posted 02/21/2011 at 04:51 AM by sacremon -

Any luck with transferring to frozen foods? I have been able to keep same lion but it was not an easy task to keep it fed. Especially the first days. I did QT and did not introduce until "he" was feeding. I bought these: http://www.seahorse.com/shop/index.p...products_id=19
The volcanic red shrimp is supposed to be a healthy food but not a staple. Although he was hesitant at first by the time I put him in the display he was working them in the corner and devouring them like they didn't cost $2 each. Never ate frozen food... I eventually sold him to someone who could afford to provide him with non-stop live foods. Good luck to you.Posted 02/19/2011 at 11:23 AM by saltjohnswharf -
Scoping out a tank upgrade
Quote:
The other fish you are planning on comes into it because if it can fit in the lion's mouth, it will likely get eaten at some point. Then there are some fish, particularly triggers and puffers, which will pick on lions, often to death.Posted 02/18/2011 at 01:05 PM by sacremon -

New additions and a backup plan works
So far the lion has not paid any attention to the goat, even when the goat is right in front of him. I feed the lion (and now the eel) once every three days, so he shouldn't be getting too hungry.Posted 07/18/2010 at 07:37 PM by sacremon -
New additions and a backup plan works
if the lion fish is used to having food given to him, he probably wont change. Just to be safe it's probably a good idea to make sure the lion fish is well fed. Animals can change attitudes due to things like hunger. Of coarse its hard to tell what animals will do, so at a minimum keep an eye on him.Posted 07/15/2010 at 05:33 PM by Mmckibben -
Well, that was one way to cycle a tank...
I know just how you feel. I've had a rough time with my tank to. My first three went fine, well... Not this one. First I had a aptasia out brake, then a huge case of velvet on all my fish, a flat worm infestation, an out brake of RTN on all my acropora, and ended with a massive tank crash due to an expired phosphate test kit. Now a year later I have a phosphate reactor, peppermint shrimp, and perfect water conditions. All I can say is endure, I know how tough reef aquariums can be.Posted 06/16/2010 at 10:45 PM by Mmckibben
