Hi, I heard that in reef tanks you should have your sand blowing around enough so that it slowly forms hills and valleys that change all the time. I have 4 in of very fine sand mixed with crushed coral sand. I can't seem to get it to move around right. It either just moves around in one spot until all you see is glass, or it doesn't move at all. All I have are three 300 gph pumps (one is hooked up to a SCWD). I have had this here for a few weeks now with the 400lbs of live rock in two 100g rubbermade stock tanks I tied together with one having an overflow skimmer I made from PVC parts that drains into the other. There are some sofities and a few SPS in there as well. I have an old 2x400w MH + 1x250w MH & 2x96w PC Hamilton fixture over the stock tanks with an Octo Extreme 250 to remove the gunk.
