OT: Home Air Conditioning Tech around San Diego 92126?
 

Hi guys, I need help from a reliable Home AC Technician in or around San Diego / Mira Mesa area.

Yesterday, the AC here stopped working and I opened the yellow pages and called the first company I could find in there.

The guy came and said that the freon was low/pressure was low. Yes that was true.

Paid him $400 to recharge and it's still not cooling.

The guy came back today, gave a bunch of attitude, saying that a 2-story house needs 2 units, dirty filter, etc... but I knew that was bull because the house is just a small condo (under 2000 square foot), and the unit was professionally installed when the house was built.

He checked the pressure and said it was fine and took off. It's been 2 hrs and the temp inside is still hovering at 78 degrees when the targeted temp is at 68. Obviously it is not working as it should.

Any advice on how to diagnose the problem from here? Or if you could, give me contact number to a technician whom has serviced you before and I can trust? Not really looking to rectify the situation with the previous company. I just want to fix the AC and don't really want to be ripped off again.

What is the discharge air temperature? That's the temp of the air coming out of your vent at the vent. If it's 15° to 20° less than the air going into the unit at the return air, it's working properly regardless of what your house temp is. There is more to it, but that's a quick check.

There were two guages. Ones showed 70. The other showed 230psi. Does that make sense?

Another tech will be coming any mins. Any inputs or advice that I can ask him will be appreciated.

The last guy looked no more than 20 and he tried to give me the "I've been doin' this for five yeers" credentials. Oi vey.

Current temperature has climbed to 79 degrees. Wonder what kind of excuses they'll throw at me. Maybe I'll have to let the AC run for 3 days to cool down since it's 2 stories.

The pressures can change with the outside/inside air temperatures. They are also different with each type of gas, so there are a few other pieces to the puzzle I would need before I could answer that question.

The supply/return air temps remain constant, so it's a easy quick way to see if things are close.
