Anyone using the new Lumenmax Elite reflectors?

Anyone using the new Lumenmax Elite reflectors? If so how do you like them? HQI or Mogul? What kind of bulbs? Pics?

chrisk500 12/15/2008 06:50 PM

This doesn't help you, but I just ordered a set a couple of days ago and hope to get them early this week so I will let you know.

They are nice VERY good par output but because they are so slim if your eyes are not 1 inch above the rim you will be seeing spots for a bit.

Paulairduck 12/15/2008 11:54 PM

I have seen them on a couple tanks, they have a nice wide spread, very shallow, and it will be able to fit in a canopy

buddah001 12/24/2008 07:58 PM

Can these be used on an open top tank with out any glare from the bulbs?

adtravels 12/24/2008 09:09 PM

youll always get a little glare. I think they are goos very compact, dont really have anything to compare themto though.

boxer385 12/24/2008 11:14 PM

i'm thinking about buying 2 of them to cover a 5ft tank

i have 2 of them over a 60"x26"dx18"w 120g

seems to have good coverage. it was my first halide setup ever so i cant compare it to anything else. but im happy so far.

do you have them mounted besides in a canopy?

kdblove_99 12/25/2008 09:43 AM

I used one on my 60 cube. Its a great reflector

Harley-J 12/27/2008 05:14 AM

Great reflectors...I have 3, running 250w SS Galaxy with Radiums...
I have had to put alot of corals under the ledges because the lighting was soooo intense...I put some of the corals on the sand bottom to acclimate...but had to hide some because it was still to intense...I am thinking of raising them higher, they are at 12" now from bulb to water line...My clams on the other hand are loving them and coloring up nicely...HTH

killaACES 12/27/2008 08:57 AM

these reflectors are by far more superior than other reflectors I have tried. we actually measured the par and it puts out the same amount as a 400w se would on the regular Lumenarcs. when people come over, they always think I have 400s over my tank and they getg surprised after they find out they are only 250s.

mike660r 12/27/2008 10:00 PM

Here are some shots of them installed and lit with XM SE 10K 250's.

Well I did order them and also the radium 20k bulbs. Now soon I can get started on making my fixture to house everything.

BradR 12/27/2008 11:09 PM

Anyone know how they compare to lumenarc 3's?
Was planning on getting the lumenarcs as they seemed to spread the light intensity more evenly than the earlier lumenmax's.

myrchandle 12/28/2008 01:11 AM

Pik your poison... Spread or Intensity. LME are good at intensity, LA3 are good at spread. I have heard mixed reviews. I have people who had LA3, bought the LME and ended up going back to LA3. I have people who kept their LME. It's all preference and how you want your tank to look, and how your set up is I guess.... Both people had 60x30 tanks, however the guy who sold his had a tank at 30" and the guys with at 20" T tank kept his....

I haven't managed to figure out what you mean here. Would you mind expanding on this a bit?

:D

Thanks

I have 2 of the elite's and love them. The enclosed canopy mount works great for installing in a canopy.

My apologies They both have 60lx30w, but their height was diff. one had the 30"h and one had 20"h. My buddy with 30" high sold his he didn't like the reflection and stayed with LA3.

Thanks. Actually, I did eventually conclude that's what you meant. ;) Do you happen to know how high each one placed the reflectors off of the water surface?

areze 12/30/2008 02:51 PM

interestingly I ahve lumenmax elite HQI and reefoptix III HQI. my observation is that the reefoptix actually cover a vastly wider area of the tank... but the lumenmax elite straight up make their 2' area glow like the sun. so as far as lumenmax's covering a wider area? Id disagree actually, but for 2'x2' areas, the lumenmax get great penetration and focus.

They both had it at 8". Then the guy who sold his moved it to 10" and 12" still didn't like the coverage.... So he sold his set up. HTH. It's more on taste I think.

kdblove_99 01/01/2009 12:46 AM

Great combo. Radiums are a great bulb

buddah001 01/01/2009 12:27 PM

I really think this set up the LME coupled with the radiums is gonna be an awesome setup. From what I have read they are designed to light up a 2'X2' area. And on my 180g this is going to work out perfect with three setups. I am getting everything tommorow. :D I can't wait to get this tank to come to life.

mike660r 01/01/2009 06:48 PM

Post some pics buddah. I would really like to see how it turns out for you as well.
