Noisy Overflows - Help????

I just fired up a new 150 I have been working on for a few months. The overflows make a lot of noise and if it stays like this it will drive me insane.

I used (2) 1.5 inch bulkheads near the top of the tank. On the inside of the tank I installed an elbow with a strainer in each. The outside of the bulkhead connects to Y connector with a maggie muffler in each. After a short section of PVC I have a barb fitting into a hose that drains into my sump. I was told by my LFS to put a loop in the hose to reduce noise which I did?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce noise? Also where the hose enters the filter socks there is a lot of splashing noise which is a separate issue but one I need to address as well. Any ideas on how to reduce that noise too?

Thanks in advance

So no box all internal correct? If so you need to have a way of letting a regulated amount of air into your overflows a pipe with a cap with a small hole drilled like a durso except external. This would allow smooth water flow and cut the surging gurgling sounds.

For your sump a reverse durso will help.

klesher,
You want as straight a drain line as possible. If you do not have an internal overflow box, you will want an external Durso overflow which is an air/water type. You will have to introduce air at the top of the drain pipe to prevent the pipe from trying to form a siphon. The best situation would be to create a layer of water flowing down the inside of the pipe. Too much turbulence and the flow causes noise.

neelix is right, for the sump a reverse durso will allow the air out in such a manner as to minimize noise and microbubbles.
