Do LEDs change spectrum over time?
I'm seriously interested in the Aqua Illumination 12" Modular LED but my friend says that LEDs change spectrum over time. Do LEDs change spectrum? My friend said that the change in spectrum can create algae problems. Do you think my friend is correct?
And is anyone familiar with Aqua Illumination's Modular LED? This light got an amazing review on the Advanced Aquarist website. |
Hmmm, not sure on the spectrum of the lights. The PAR of the lights definitely went down over two years (not to add many burnt out bulbs). Maybe the newer lights are better at maintaining quality. The generation one was so horrible I switched back to T5 lighting and I'm loving it!

your friend is wrong. LEDs are made to be one color and they are designed that way so that is the only color they are capable of producing. now white LEDs can change spectrum because they are blue LEDs that have phosphurs that make them white so as they age they may start getting a little bluer but nothing that will cause algae problems.

graha: I think LEDs have come a long way in the last couple of years. Aqua Illumination has some very impressive modules.
Mustang Boy: I agree with you. I felt my friend was mistaken, but it's good to get this feedback from you - especially since I just purchased the Aqua Illumination Sol White module and controller! |
