Tail Spot Blenny "The little nipper"
Just caught my Blenny nipping at my LPS. I noticed my chalices were looking a little upset tonight so I looked in the tank to see if they had changed before lights out. Well I saw that the Blenny was nipping the frag disks and I thought he also got the edge of a chalice. I watched a bit longer and sure enough he nipped the chalice right in the eye. Tried catching him but he hid in the rock work. He likes to hide in a natural hole in the live rock so tomorrow I'm thinking of blocking the hole with a water bottle hoping that he'll eventually swim into it. Wish me luck.

Well did it work?

Had this happen to me with a bicolor blenny. Caught him nipping at all my SPS just like you did.
He would slither right back into his hole every time I tried to catch him and I got so frustrated and almost gave up hope. I eventually waited until the lights were about to go out and stuck a chop stick in the opposite end of his burrow while keeping the net positioned on the other side. He went right into the net. Hope the technique might be helpful for you - good luck! |
You could also try something like a glass bowl or clear plastic container. I don't think they can see them and its worked great for me when i couldnt catch a fish with a net

If there's any way you could video your approach to catching that blenny, I'm sure we'd all get a kick out of it!
