Protein Skimmer in 10g yes or no?
I am starting a 10g reef tank and I was wondering if i need a protien skimmer. If you have a 10g what skimmer do you use?
|
If you keep up on water changes you should be ok. Im running a 29gal without a protein skimmer and I just do weekly water changes.

Yeah should be fine just do water changes. I dont have one on my 6 gallon.

No need for a skimmer.... just do frequent water changes.
|
On a small tank like that I would use the "one cup in, one cup out" method for water changes. You can make enough water up for a week or two and change out one cup daily.
|
I have one on my 12g JBJ nano, it takes some nasty stuff out every week. I would get one if you can, I also do 30% water changes weekly.
|
It's not needed if you stick with a strict water change schedule.

I have two 10g tanks. the old established tank is skimmerless. Does great with HOB filter and WCs. The new tank is bare bottom. It has a remora c skimmer. It is lightly stocked and barely feed and the skimmer pulls alot of skimmate from the water. My guess is that the eco sytem is not achieved it's happy balance yet. Every tank is different. When you start your new tank, your water parameters will tell you what is needed.

I am not currently running a skimmer in my 24 gallon nano - haven't in about 6 months now - just doing water changes.
Everything is doing fine. |
