LED strip to make colors pop?
 

Hey all, I have a standard JBJ 24 with the CF bulbs. I added an Ecoxotic 403nm strip and the greens in the corals pop. I was wondering about getting the reds/oranges/blues/etc to pop. Is there another LED strip i can add to have these pop? Or does it depend on the coral for the different colors to pop?

I use the strip solely as "moonlights"

It's the color of the corals .
I would suggest anything in the magenta ..pink/red to get reds n oranges to pop .
Blue is a totally different case as it would be in the 420 460 range .
Please keep in mind the leds in the pink/red range are known to cause micro algae issues.
I know because my strip is in a box collecting dust .

The blue magenta strip will help with reds to some degree. An all blue will really make the oranges and greens come to life.

FWIW, I run 4 of the 403nm over my tank. I love what they do for color!

Thanks for the info! The greens really pop with a single 403, but def want some other colors to pop!

Ryan do you have a pic of your tank??

I have some with only the 403 strips on. I'm fighting a serious hair algae problem currently so full tank pics haven't been taken.

My tank used to be my dad's and he dumped in some city water about 18 months ago and the algae has never fully gone away. Our city water is terrible and just loaded with nutrients. It's been a fun battle! :mad:

Ouch! Do the reds and oranges pop in your tank? What do you run for lights other than the 4 403nm's?

will supplemental led strips alter the par value of a par38 bulb? or alter the wavelength the corals need?

The 'Royal Blue (445nm) strip is my favorite. Definitely helps the green and orange florescent pigments to stand out.

I would go easy on the Magneta. The corals seem to respond well to it, but I have noticed that I get more green stringy turf algae in the general area lit by my single 12k/Magenta strip. It's also the only area in the tank where a bit of red cyano tends to show up.

Yes, they will add some PAR. They won't alter what is already given out by a par38 bulb, but depending what strips you choose, they will add new, or add to, the already existing wavelengths. Using the individual reflectors will add about 25% more PAR.
