In the market for a skimmer, your thoughts please..

I have a 90 gallon starphire rimmless tank now running for 6 months, in it I have LPS and medium stocked fish. I use a octupus 150 skimmer and it works great, no complaints. I just bought another 90 gallon and will probably go fish only in this one, well maybe a few corals, so what is the best priced, quiet (in bedroom) and effective skimmer for this tank? Was thinking about a magus curve 5 or sticking with the optupus 150? I will have it in a 30 gallon sump..thanks for your inputs...

I have a Curve 5 on my 90 and can't hear a thing.

hey aaron, thanks for the reply, so no issues?

None at all I empty it weekly.

I have a Curve 5 as well. I'm really happy with it. I've never had an Octopus, but it is much better than a Aquamaxx I used to have.

thanks sammy, I am leaning towards the curve 5

I don't know if its necessarily the best priced but I've heard great things about the AquaMaxx skimmers.

Yeah, I can get my hands on a AquaC EV-180 used a month for 250.00..

I use an EM200 on my 90g, and it performs flawlessly. I have moved it to my 150g due to an issue with the impeller of my EM300 which is my fault, due to not running a prefilter on the sump, and debris was caught in pinwheel causing the impeller to be unbalanced and damaged. I am waiting on a new impeller.

But the point is, the EM200 is more than enough skimmer, for a fair price. It is quiet, efficient, and gives you room to grow.

thanks for the info...
