Miro-4 2 bulb T5 kit
Anyone use one of these in a canopy? If so did you leave the bare bulbs exposed or did you insulate them from the water? I'm concerned about accidentally breaking a bulb into the water.

They're more durable than you think. I'd be most worried about a fish jumping up and breaking one. Do you have any top on the tank itself, between the water & bulbs?

Could either go with a clear mesh screen top, or check out eplastics and make some sort of splash shield for the light.

I also wonder how hot these things get mounted on the wood canopy. I guess I'll find out. |
You have a pic of how I mounted mine in the 1st post. You can see my hydras in the middle. I made a nice hanging frame around them.My canopy is completely closed except the back.It runs very cool in the canopy. No fans other then whts in the hydras.

The kit comes with 4 metal clips. I assume the clips are for snapping in the T5 bulbs towards the middle. Did you use those? |
Hey John,
I installed the LET miro-4 kits in my canopy to supplement my LEDs alittle over a year ago. I mounted then to some 1"x2"s (wood) which I screwed into the top of the canopy. I have had no issues with heat from the bulbs in the wood. I believe the 4 metal clips you are referring to are the clips used to attach the reflectors to the bulb. |
DDon, ReefTankHunter, Kyuss and anyone else supplementing LEDs with T5s. Is it worth it? Have you noticed an improvement in growth and coloration of your corals?
|
For me yes it was worth it. Growth rate definitely improved.
