whats up with this panworld?
 

just hooked my panworld 100px hooked up to my closed loop. running the tank with fresh water right now checking things out. the pump cavitates unless i close the ball valves quite a bit and creat more pressure. the noise is awful. will this go away? is it just some air trapped in there? anyone with an experience like this?

So you've got an over the back of the tank overflow rather than a traditional or drilled one? I have the same thing- had to step down to the 480gph version and use penductors to get the flow I wanted. Might want to try flexible pvc or a different overflow design. There may not be any getting around it although sometimes it does help to umplug the pump for a few seconds a couple times to try and get the air out that may be in there. :( You can also try a bio ball in the pvc line to break the little vortex that is causing the cavitation.

If its not trapped air it sounds like the input pipes can not keep up with the flow generated by the pump.

Things to try:

Increase the number of intakes on the CLP, increase the pipe diameter, restrict pump flow,

check for any air leaks into the CLP

the pump has 1" male fittings on it. i have 1.5" pvc intake bulkhead going down and being reduced to 1" before the pump. that should be plenty of intake. technically it should run fine with just 1". ?? also, i tried to restrict the flow but in order to get it to stop i have to restrict to the point where im losing too much flow.

I know this is a dumb question but did you take the rubber seals out of the inlet and outlet of the pump before trying to turn it on?

haha. yes i did. its pumping like crazy. except its loud as hell. in order for me to get rid of the cavitation like sound i have to turn down the returns so much that im defeating the purpose.

You get this fixed newnano? I know a ton of people use panworld pumps, I'm sure someone will pipe up and fix the problem. Usually it's just a tweak here or there and you're good to go. Good luck!

I have the same problem with my 50, it is loud and it is coming from the motor itself, plus the fan whistles. My Gen-x 70 is much quieter. I removed the blade to test listen and it helps, but still not a solution. I am using it on a MR-2 skimmer. I love the skimmer, hate the pump, I bought both used, but I saw both running when I bought them and i didn't think they were that loud, but they did have the TV volume up beside the tank and I may have not paid attention to it.

mine def sounds like there is air in there or cavitation. does your noise go away when you close the return valves?

i cant figure it out.

anyone else have this problem with their panworld or other pump?
