hole location for external pump in sump
I am making my sump right now and would like to put in a hole for a future external pump.
Anyone know how high I should put this hole and what size? Thanks |
There is no set or standard height. It all depends on the pump.
You could put the hole up high enough off the bottom and have to put a pad of some sort under the pump to bring it up. If you want a guesstimate I would say 3" off the bottom to center of hole should work. As for what size make it 1 1/2" bulkhead and plug it. 1 1/2" should be enough for anything you will need. |
Cool...that will work for me. Can always adjust a little later.
Thanks |
I had no way to drill a hole in my AGA 30g sump. So, I simply plumbed the pipe from the pump up and over the tank wall, then straight down. Seems to be working fine. I would guess I may have lost a GPH or two doing it this way.

if you put it too high up, you could get a flood when the pump is turned off
