I'm in the same boat with you. I'm building an 80 with a 30-40 gln sump. I'm looking for a skimmer that I could also use on a 150. That's the size I want to upgrade to in the future. I would love to only have to buy one skimmer and take it along for the upgrade. But what I haven't had answered yet; is this going to be possible? Is it better to buy a skimmer for only a specific application, or is it OK buy one that is overkill now, but will be perfect for it's next job? I've asked a couple of times in the skimmer q & a, but when I ask, I also ask other questions and have yet to get this one answered.
