Bacteria bloom ...help!
Hi there...
160 gallon 4 1/2 months running. Fairly heavy bioload Nitrates were too low Dosed Nitrate Now nitrates on the roof at 75 !!!!! Dosed NOPOX - WAMMMMMMMMM foggy water bacterial bloom NOTE: I jussst go over a bacteria bloom about a week or so ago after doing water changes till the cows came home.... Do I have to do water changes again to get rid of the bloom or should I just LEAVE it alone? Surely I should not use any more nopox at this point? I used the nopox a single time exactly to the directions on bottle ???? Thanks for your input please...cheers...I am getting friggin old!!!!

Try a UV sterilizer. More information would be helpful. What is you bioload? What maintnence do you do daily, weekly and monthly? What tests do you do, how often and what are your parameters? What lighting do you have?

UV can get it done, so can time. I had a horrible bacterial bloom in a nano I'd had up for a little over a month. It took 2-3 weeks to clear, but nothing was worse for wear. I have a UV filter if I need it, but it's not always practical. My nano is a great example. I didn't do water changes for about a month, but had a constant ATO keeping the tank balanced. I was only risking some zoas, so I had some wiggle room WRT sensitive animals. They're all as healthy as they were pre-bloom.

thanks
Thanks..turns out this second bloom was minor compared to the one I had two weeks ago....it cleared up 80% overnight...so..no worries...
Yes a UV willl be put on my system...to help KILL ANY FLOATING ICK! I feel UV is just an added precaution but NOTHING is 100% sure thing...nothingggggggg in this hobby!... We have to learn to both think on our feet and quickly adapt.... If it was not a challenge it would not be fun! Recently I fell in love with Hanna Checkers again! I ran into some trouble along with doing Quarantining etc and the checkers make life so much better when trying to GET THE WATER RIGHT... cHEERS
