I'm mulling over options for a standard 29 gallon reef. I've been looking mostly at strip led lighting; BML and Finnex.

The general consensus seems to be the Finnex won't look right, and I'm feeling like the BML fixture is a bit pricey for what you get.

I'm not crazy about how a hanging fixture will look in this instance. I was taking another look at the Evergrow/Reefbreeders fixture. I was wondering if anyone had mounted one close to the surface of the tank and by dimming the fixture and removing the optics got acceptable coverage?

well the evergrow fixture with the optics pulled off should give a good coverage for a 29g.... 29g tank are rather high for smaller tanks. i think you would do just fine with that fixture....

i would have the fixture no closer then 6" tho...any closer i feel the moisture from the tank may start doin some damage to the unit...

I wonder how much overspill there would be at 6"? The idea would be to fab a mounting bracket for the fixture instead of hanging it from the ceiling or from a wall mounted shelf bracket.
