Hi Joe
You will need a separate pump- but you can use virtually any small powerhead you have laying around. It just needs to be strong enough to push water from the level of your fresh water reservoir to the tank/sump. A small maxijet powerhead, aqualifter, etc all work well. We recommend the Aqualifter as it is inexpensive and pumps at a slow rate, perfect for delivering fresh water to all but the largest systems. Justin |

Whoops, missed these questions, sorry!
A dosing pump is ideal. It pumps consistently and slowly, and typically cannot siphon. Yes, the tube can be trimmed. Justin |
