Tail Spot Blennie
I really would like to add a Blennie to my tank as my final fish but a lot of them say may nip at polyp corals and clam mantles, my question is the Tail Spot less a threat to do that and does he have as much personality as the other Blennies?

Mine seems personable ... and as of yet, hasn't nipped anything.
That said, it took my Midas over a year in the tank to start nipping at the clam [and get himself removed].

I have a tailspot in my 10 gallon. I haven't noticed him nipping anything, but only have softies in the tank with him. He's very cute, but also somewhat shy compared to larger blennies.

What about Bi Color Blennies, do they nip at corals and clams? I saw one at my LFS and he looks so cute with those big puppydog eyes. I would get one if I didn't think I would be putting my corals at risk...I also have a Purple Firefish and I've heard they might bully him, is this true?

I have a tailspot with clams, sps, and lps, and he's a model citizen---except for nabbing slime strings loaded with cyclopeeze from the sps. He will rob a coral, but has never been observed to damage it.
The bicolors are pushier than the lawnmower, given their size. You'll note my list in my sig.

Sk8r how is the Tail Spots personality compared to the other Blennies? The main reason I want a Blennie is because of the goofball personality, if a Tail Spot is shy and hides a lot then I don't know if he's what I want. I've thought about a Lawnmower but I've heard they get big and can attack other fish and I don't want that!

I have a bi color that is a lot fun. He is the families favorite, we are always checking to see what he is up too. I have Chromis, Clown, Goby, Hippo Tang and he gets along with all. Never been a problem with any coral either.

Forgot to mention that I also have a Fire Fish. The Blenny never bothers him, it it is the six line Wrasse that goes after the Fire Fish.

This is in a 29 gallon tank, not a whole lot of room to run...would a Bi-Color still be suitable (with polyp corals, clam, firefish) or should I stick with the Tail Spot? Is there a big dropoff personality-wise between the two? I've also read about a Black and Yellow Blenny that sounds like a nice fish as well. I just want everyone to get along and not have to worry about my corals or clams being nipped.

I like the bi colors and red spotted rock skippers.. blennies in general can and sometimes will be opportunistic in the same way any grazer can be but if you keep it well fed it shouldn't be trouble.
It also depends on the individual fish some have had no problems whatsoever and others have. I'd try it out- they are generally very peaceful and adorably amusing fish! If you aren't willing to take a risk a similar fish that may be more sand dwelling would be a goby. they are so fun to watch too and have similar goofy faces ![]()

I'm glad you're asking all the blennie questions! Hopefully I'll remember in 6 months or so...
