Where can I buy empty shells for hermit crabs ?

Hi,

I am looking for a source to buy unvarnished empty shells for my hermit crabs for when they get larger. I know Drs. Foster and Smith carries some, but I was looking for additional sources.

A lot of the online shell dealers sell varnished shells. I'm looking for shells that are all natural and non-processed with chemicals/varnishes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Eric

If you have snails, your hermit crabs will just take those.

Real nice Froggy. I would suggest making sure you have plenty of shells for you hermits to move into already laying in your tank. Otherwise they will kill your snails to take their shells. I bought a large bag of assorted shells from A.C.Moore for like five bucks last year and I still have half of the bag. Just make sure you soak them in hot water before throwing them in your tank.

?? I wasn't being mean with my comment. Hermits will kill snails with or without other empty shells available. I would not mix the two for this reason. Sorry if what I said came accross wrong.

I am trying to be proactive. I want to have snails and hermits, and I'm hoping the hermits will go for the empty shells before killing any snails.

I'll check out eBay and AC Moore. Thanks!

Check in the craft section at Wal-Mart, we've gotten them there before.
