Typhoon Iii Question

Looking for advice on the units on airwaterice.com. ive been researching the typhoon III but they have the typhoon 5 stage that is 60 dollars less.what is the difference between the two that make it cheaper?im about to buy one and i cant make up my mind.i allready have a inline tds meter from spectrapure that i was using on my other ro/di. Is there anything that i would need on the typhoon III that makes it worth spending 60 more?

They Typhoon 3 from air water ice has a pressure guage, and a TDS meter. It also has fast flush valves and an RO only output. These are all nice to have. Other than that, the filters, DI stage, RO membrane, cannisters, etc are all the same. I have a Typhoon I that I subsequently added a TDS meter to. Either unit would be fine, and both units will do the same filtration job. Get the 75 gpd membrane. Since you already have an inline TDS, just get the typhoon I

Thanks i ordered the typhoon I with the fast flush and pressure gauge and saved a few bucks. This unit has such good reviews on Rc i hope that it lives up to its name.

I 'think' DI Water is not good for human consumption? They allow you to use RO water devert to a sink attachment for drinking etc.

Take a slug of RO/DI water... its not very tasty.. to clean

The RO bypass lets you flush the initial RO to waste so you don't get the slug of TDS Creep water in your DI and shorten its life. It also allows you to use the unit for RO drinking water as I do, I also use it for my icemaker and it makes clear ice cubes!

DI water is safe for consumption it just doesnt have minerals in it that your body needs, its just pure H20. it will rehydrate you thats about it. If you want it to taste better just run it through a carbon filter. AZdesertRat can tell you more about it, I think he works in the water purification industry.

so when i use the fast flush to flush out the membrane it will flush thru the DI as well? Or when im using it for normal operation?

As long as im changing out the filters every 6 months then the RO only output is not really needed is it? Im replacing my Aquasafe unit from ebay with this and im pretty sure when i flushed the membrane it skips the DI altogether.

The fast flush just basically removes the flow restrictor temorarily so all of the water goes to waste. It is supposed to be like a wash for the membrane to remove particles from it's surface. Some people feel it helps, others don't believe it does anything. What AZ was refering to was the RO bypass valve. This is different. It lets you get RO water only but has nothing to do with a flush valve or fast flush of the membrane. Every time you turn on your RO system, you get a burst of high tds water that goes through the membrane as the pressure and everything settle. This high tds water can be taxing over time for the DI resin. If you open the RO only valve, then the RO water with high initial tds will not have to go through the DI resin. You can do whatever you want with this water. I put it down the sink. Once the TDS has come way down out of the RO, then I let it go through my DI resin. It only takes a few minutes.
