24/7 here.
Pro:Balances pH, although so will running reverse lighting. Con:Any snails will not have a day night cycle.

Doesn't it depend on what type of algae is in there?

Doesn't matter.
It will help maintain a steady ph in your tank.

Opposite the main. Some algae need periods of dark.

I have run mine 24/7, with chaeto in the fuge... but I am considering switching to a day / night cycle to see if I get more growth (or less).

24/7 here, Cheato is more flow dependent then photo period. Snails will adapt and yes it is a pH factor, if you turn off the Cheato will produce CO2.

I guess it just depends on whether you want to grow cheato or try and do something that helps keep your tank stable.

so bottom line 24/7 secondary to ph stability as well as possibly best growth
anybody else's two cents?
