High Salinity

I just got a refractometer for christmas and measured my tank. My swingarm says that it was 1.023 but the refractometer after calibration says 1.029. I am sure this is to high. I definitely trust the refractometer as the swingarm is a couple years old and probalby no good to begin with. Could this at all be contributing to my hair algea problem. I am going to just remove a few cups of water a day and replace it with ro/di till levels are more acceptable.

depending on the swingarm type they are subject to error, you can take out more than a few cups a day that will hardly make any change, IMO take out about two a day
