Help, Xenia Dying

Had xenia in my 29 for about 4 days, seemed to be doin well, untill i noticed that some of it was dead. I drip acclimated when it was purchased, and it was doing fine, expanding contracting etc.

Want a tank with some easy stuff, thinking Mushrooms, Xenia, and Leather Coral

The tank is about 1 month old, and inhabited by

1 Perc
1 Royal Gramma
2 Zebra Hermits
1 Green Mythrax Crab

Current Water Perameters

Ammonia 0 ppm
NitrAte 5 ppm
NitrIte 0ppm
pH 8.2
Salinity 1.024
Kh 400

Lights are Coralife Twin Tube T-5 Flourscents,
18 Watt 10,000k
18 watt Actinic

Then Added ( thinking Xenia needed More Light) as it seemed to be dying ....(added yesterday)

1 55 watt 10,000k
1 55 watt Actinic

Thats some 146 watts of intense light, did I add the Light A little too late? Is that Enough Light for these Corals?

I'm on top of my Water Changes 20% weekly, use IO Reef Crystals
and have 40 lbs live Rock

Buying a New Most likely Remora Skimmer (where can i find them inexpensive on the web)

What Have I done Wrong, I am a little dissappointed, but know you can only learn from experience, Being My first SW tank I'm not sure what to expect, and will continue my research.

ANY HELP OR INPUT would be appreciataed

I do not think Xenia needs much light or perfect water parameters. Some say Xenia needs dirty water. MAybe try it again in a couple months when the tank is more estabilished. Kenya tree is another simple coral that grows in many types of conditions. Goodluck!

Thanks, feelin like I need some more encouragement. UGH $29 dollars gone. It was nice too, bright purple,

Do I need to add anything else to the tank, thinking of

2 Maxi Jet 900 powerheads
A new Remora Protein Skimmer

Do i need Anything Else

Should I add A HOB filter (AquaClear 30, Emperor 180)?

In your parameter you said your KH is 400. 400 what? That seems like a lot of stuff for a 1 month old 29, imo.

You should take it a bit slower, but xenia are easy to keep, make sure there is adequate circulation in the tank and a good place for a remora pro is www.premiumaquatics.com i have the remora pro with the extra large cup and a mag 7, it works great. Around 290. You don't have to get the upgrades, but premium has teh cheapest price on teh net. Blieve me

my xenia just did ok untill i started adding iodine, now its growing like crazy. you do have to watch iodine though , its really easy to overdose. and i do agree with the above post about xenia likeing dirty water. i cant frag enough of it.

Yeah, its 400, my sister added a lil too much Purple up, which is nothing but liquid calcium carbonate, with some iodine..

Wink

I had xenias that were doing great for about 4 months. They grew from a colony of about 20 to a colony of about 35 until one day my powder blue decided it was fun to rip them apart. Have a couple straglers hiding in spots around the tank so I hope they take back off.
