toomuch cheato in refug?

is it possible to have to much cheato?

How do I know when to thin it out?

I just thin it out when it starts getting too compacted. You don't want it getting so dense that the upper layers are shading the lower layers too much. It will also have more or a tendency to collect detritus as it gets more dense with less waterflow through it.

Detritus is a concern. Also you want it to grow so you can trim it and export the nutrients so the more chaeto you take out the better.
