Torch Coral Damaged

My Torch coral was damaged on the way home from the LFS, some of it's heads have tissue damage as the tentacles are retracted in and one head looks dead as there is no tissue at all. Will the heads with damage regenerate themselves and return to health? The dead head obviously won't be coming back but other then that it is a really beautiful coral and a majority of it is healthy and doing fine.

It may just be stressed. They retract their tentacles when stressed, and it seems sometimes they just do it for their own reasons.

I had one with three heads and two of them died off, while the remaining head had barely an extension (you can find a pic in my gallery). The heads that completely died off never came back, however the remaining head is doing really well now.

Hmmm...my torch got damaged with a net once...some of the arms were ripped off. It didn't look very healthy for about two days...but eventually, it looked fine, and more arms grew in.

BTW, ask your LFS to wrap any soft coral frags with a small plastic bag, kinda like wrapping a wine glass to protect it from getting broken. My LFS does it whenever I buy a frag from them.

yup, my LFS does wrap them in bags too...it might have happened when I took the bag out and was placing it in my tank but I did notice some of the tentacle ends broken off and floating in the bag before i released it.

Give it a bit of time and you'll see.
