Tiger tail sand cucumber

I'm not to sure if I want to add a Tiger Tail sand cucumber to my reef tank. Does anyone know for sure, if they get bugged by a fish or die, the toxin they give off wipe out my tank?

Do not buy. They don't live long in a tank, and they have been known to spew upon death. One intense benifit if you do go ahead and buy is, smell it after you pluck it out of the tank after death. It will leave an outstanding odor you will cherrsih forever.

FALSE!!!

I've had a Tiger Tail Cucumber for roughly 2 years. It did get sucked into a MJ 900 (no strainer on it) and did spew some of his guts. After getting it out of the powerhead, he was about 1/4 the size he was before and recovered and is doing fine as well as everything else in the tank.

Some cucumbers will nuke your tank, tiger tails are not one of them.

Fish do not bother cukes. I've had several over the years. I like them because they clean the sand. Lots of sand pellets every morning in my tank. Here is mine blanketed by my sebae. He is about 8-9 inches when fully stretched.

I disagree, I have had mine for over 2 years and had no problems. You just need to make sure you have enough food for them (55g+) so they dont starve to death. Here is a good read...

here is a cool pic of mine.......

Not true at all. Tiger tail cukes are GREAT sand sifters and cleaners. They will NOT nuke your tank, I had one for a year in my tank before he got chewed up by a powerhead. Didnt lose a thing.

I just put one in my 29g. I had debated long and hard before finally buying a small one but the general concensus is that Tiger Tails are great sand sifters and keep your sand bed very clean which is what i want and that they are one of the few cucumbers that won't nuke your tank upon being stressed or dying.

I think one of the keys to long term sucess is a nice, long, slow acclimation period.

I agree with most of the posts above. I love mine. I got the one from liveaquaria because they specifically mention that is is not toxic if it dies.

Yup, easttn was mistaken. I've had mine for 3 years, no problems, keeps the sand clean. These do not have toxins.
