To Reef Central

What kinds of animals do you want to keep? For a fish-only tank, any lamps that look nice to you are fine. For light-demanding corals and anemones, a good T5 or metal halide system might be appropriate.

Many corals will do well enough with low lighting. Most soft corals, for example, will be fine that way.

I suspect you'll want to add at least a minimal T5 setup when you want to add corals. What wattage are the current bulbs?

Well, hard to say, but you'll likely need to replace them.

For dusk to dawn you'll need a controller/timer with different color bulbs.

Sounds like you more than likely have VHO bulbs. If they have a little cheapy reflector to sit on top of the glass lids, that's them. You can add 1 actinic and 1 10K bulb to keep softies.

If you want to keep sps you'll need to upgrade. Get MH or T-5's. You'll like them more than what you have.
