Anyone else lose stuff during ice storm?

Just curious if anyone else out there lost lots of stuff during this crazy ice storm. I live in Springfield, Missouri which was one of the hardest hit. The President has even declared it a disaster area.

I lost about 80% of my tank. I was without power for a little over 3 days. I lost all of my SPS corals except for 3. I also lost about half of my soft corals. I lost an awesome Xenia that was just starting to take off really well. I lost 7 out of 10 fish, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp, sally lightfoot crab, lettuce nudibranch.

I wasn't able to get a generator hooked up until my power had been off for about 36 hours. I even drove a 4 hour roundtrip to get one. It was too late by then. I had a fireplace that kept the water fairly warm but I think it was the lack of water flow that did everything in. I was at least able to save some of the tank though. I'm just upset because it takes so long to grow corals. I'll at least be ready for the next time this happens.

I would be most grateful for any coral frag donations in the Springfield, Missouri area. This is so upsetting I'm about to call it quits. I'm embarrassed to show my tank right now. Looks like I'm just growing a rock garden. I'm basically having to start all over again.

That really sucks. I feel for you. We've been very fortunate that only parts lost power in the Detroit area. I never did. I'd try to look at this as an apoourtunity to make any changes you've been wanting to your tank. Like adding new gear, LR, anything like that. Something to ease the pain.

On a side note, I mentioned to my wife last night about what she thought about getting a generator. I was exepting a hell no but got a hell yes instead. That was good!

Yea, you make a good point. I was just telling my brothers last week that I wouldn't be buying any more Lyrtail Anthias once my current ones died. That problem has been solved. I just didn't like the females as much as I thought I would. They look too much like goldfish imo.

^ they do look sorta like goldfish... but I still think they are very neat.

I'm sorry to hear of your losses, but you should always have a plan incase something like this happens. For instance, I have a battery airpump that comes on when the power goes out and a 12v power inverter that I can manually hook up to run the pumps and heater.

an ice storm is what got me into salt. I had a 50g cichlid tank and a 20g fry tank. I had about 300 various cichlid fry and 10 adults, but had no place to take them. anyhow my power was out for 2 weeks and everything died. that was 3 yrs ago i went salt and never looked back. now i have my heat and pumps running through one of those battery backup surge protectors. hopefully my power doesnt go out for more than 4 hrs. next time.

I was out of power for about a week and a half last year in KS, but i was lucky enough to have a friend about a mile away that kept power the entire time. That was the fastest i have moved my tank to date.
