Check my math... calculating monthly expense of my tank...

Hey ya'll,

Trying to calculate the cost of my tank to run a month just to know. This is the formula that I have:

Watts / 1000, x electric rate kilowatt/hr, x hours, x 30 days a month.

My tank:

150w MH x 8 hours a day

60w (3 MJ's) x 24 hours a day.

1st calcuation: 150w / 1000 = 0.15 , x .094 (my rate) = .0141, x 8 hours = .1128, x 30 days = $3.34 month

2nd calculation: 60w / 1000 = .06, x .094 (my rate) = .00564, x 24 hours = .13536, x 30 days = $4.06 month

Total: $7.40 month.

Does this sound about right?

Thanks.

Yep, this use to be an all male club.

However, there are all sorts of calculators in the left margin on the Home page. Also go to the stickies on the Chemisty Forum, Randy's artcles for some handy calculators, for Calcium and alkalinity additions.

Just don't let the "Good Ole Boys" know I told you that.

I've found there is no calculater that seems to keep up with the new stuff I just have to buy. I guess that's a good thing, cause if my wife ever found about it the tank and I would be homeless.

On the serious side. Seven years ago there were only a handful of lady reefers on RC. There has been a steady increase every year since and now the ladies are almost as numerous as the guys. I am glad to see the change toward the rewards of this great hobby.

I have the LFS trained. If she asks it is always $20 or less. At last count the new 120 only cost about $350. LOL

The Calculator is useful and fairly darn accurate. I have also bought a killawatt and that is a useful tool! Burntout: my electric rate is .0698, or 6.98 cents per kWh! South Carolina does have at least one perk! On the other hand, I am honest about the price with my girlfriend, I just tell her after I bought it... then I reminder her how much she is costing me! She feels guilty and then buys me dinner, I can't loose!
