Tank Stand Steadiness?

I am slowly building up equipment for my first SW tank. I have a 25G tank (24x12x20) and I just got a stand for it (26x14x30). I filled the tank with 20G of RO to test for leaks and steadiness.

This is set up on low pile carpet in my lviing room. The stand seems fairly stable, but if I push it a little it wiggles back and forth. It seems like it would take a big push to knock it over, but I don't want to take any chances.

Do any of you have experience with this type of tank/stand combo? Any suggestions?

You could try some small L brackets on the side or back of the stand and screw them through the carpet into the subfloor.

Probably will be ok if the stand is stable. At first I though you meant the stand was a little shady, but if it is just shifting on the carpet you shouldn't have a prob.

Yeah, the stand is solid - well built.

Dubbin - will the padding eventually flatten out and then my stand won't shake? I'm in SoCal and I'd hate for a earthquake to knock it over.

I got the same problem with my 80G system, they are empty on an old hardwood floor. If "jump" without leaving the ground, the tank wiggle nearly 1 inch back and forth.

Hope it will be okay once full

If you are planning on keepin the tank in the same spot, what about cutting out the area of carpet that the tank sits on??

Well I have never been in an earthquake but I would think the carpet padding would be the least of your worries during one. I have talked to a couple people from SoCal that bolt their stand to the wall to help earthquake proof it.

Well, the sloshing action eliminates the need for an expensive wave maker.

I have a column tank that sits on a solidly built oak stand that will move around quite a bit when running the magfloat. I think it is just the nature of a stand with such a narrow footprint.
