We have 2 giant hermit crabs (Nightcrawler and Murderface
![]() They look kind of like this http://naturaljapan.net/wp-content/p...t_hermit01.jpg but much much smaller… ~10cm at the widest point of the shell Unfortunately over the last week we've begun to realize that they're not very reef compatible. They don’t mean to cause harm but with their 'snow plough’ shells they can’t help but bump into everything… and it’s only going to get worse the more I add and the bigger they get. This leaves me with 2 options: 1) Convince them to change residence to a shell that isn’t so wide… mind you, I have absolutely no idea how to do this… and after finding the pic I linked to above it appears they have some growing to do ![]() 2) Return them to the store –sob- and find a new crabby replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m considering an emerald or porcelain crab, but will they just hide all day long? The giant hermits spend a lot time at the front of the tank picking at this and that, and always come running when it’s feeding time. I have a lil red legged and a Hawaiian hermit, but they’re not nearly as interesting. Ideally I need something that’s slightly bigger than them, but not as big as the giants... oh and as bright a colour as possible! (The giants are red and blue which is neat) The other thing that concerns me is a new crab having a munch on some of my other inhabitants, particularly: Yasha Haze Goby, Pistol Shrimp, Scooter Blenny, Juvenile Clownfish and Cleaner Shrimp. I'd eventually like to get a starfish if that is of concern too. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks! ![]() |
