ID help would be much appreciated
I have a couple annoying little beings in my tank that, to my knowledge, are aliens. If you have any good guesses, that would be great.
#1: Coarse macroalgae. Annoying. #2: Strange sponge that grows in bunches. I hates thems. http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/...ien_sponge.JPG Thanks for the help. |

I think #2 is a purple type of macroalgae. I don't know the species, but I have them in my nano. Are they filled with a sticky mucus?

#1. Maybe bryopsis, pull it out it's evil
#2. Looks like bubble algae covered with coraline

The strange buggers in the second picture are filled with strange mucousy goo. Under actinics, they are red with little speckles of flourescent green.
I suppose the first picture could be bryopsis. I was under the impression that bryopsis was hair algae. This isn't flowy and all consuming like hair algae. Just clumps of very coarse strands that roots strongly into the rocks. |

Sounds like your #2 item is exactly what I have. It an algae. I've found it a little annoying and every once in a while I go and cut out as much as possible.
