Is it possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to have to slow of turnover rate thru the sump and if it is what will happen? I have about 2.5-3x turnover thru my sump with my new pump and was wondering what could be the ill effects of this? Also how do you know how much flow to get thru your fuge? I have no way of measuring this in GPH. I have my drain lines from the tank split and am trying to adjust the fuge rate, the drain to the skimmer section is open all the way.

I agree, some people like to have it a little higher, but there's nothing wrong with 3x turnover through the sump. To measure the flow through your refugium can you time how long it takes to fill a gallon and then calculate the gal/hour?

I cannot use a gallon jug to calculate GPH as my drains are under the water in the sump.

I wouldn't worry too much. Many people have a much lower amount of water going through their sump/refugium with the bulk of it in the tank in the form of powerheads or closed loop(s). As far as the 'fuge goes, I would gauge the looks of the inhabitants to determine if the rate is high enough. If the algae is looking a bit 'rough' despite higher levels of nutrients in the tank, then increase the flow a little.
