Blue clam
Not sure if i'm posting in the right area? I got a blue clam like a week ago and noticed his colors weren't what they usually are. So I decided to check him out. It seems he's dead or very close to it. What did I do wrong? Or just didn't do perhaps? The soft coral I put in the same day is doing fine....

Clams needs high lights and stable conditions, what kind of lights do you have? sounds like a crocea, do you have a pic?

is the mantle receiding is probably a goner, how long did you have it? just the lighting alone won't kill the clam fast. Don't try to feed the clam.

Does the mantle respond if you put your hand over it? If it does, then there's still plenty of hope. No response, then it
s probably too late.

how big is the clam? the smaller ones need plenty of phyto plankton as lighting is not enough at 3" or smaller. Also if you have moved the clam around it's possible the muscle that attaches it to substrate has been damaged. If that is the case it is difficult for them to recover IME. A bit more info would help narrow things down.

I have a maxima and a little giant. Both respond well to my metal halides. What i have noticed is that if i have my hands in the tank stirring things up they tend to become reclusive. The more I stay out of the water, the better they do.

yup mine looked just like teena's. It's dead now....(taps!) Altough he was given a good life. His heart couldn't last much longer and he just passed away... RSVP goes out to his wife and kin folk.... He was all of 2 1/2" Seriously he was in my tank for a week most. I guess he wasen't close enough to the light at first. Or not fed with the right stuff? I used invert smorgasboard from coralife. Says good for clams as well. I guess I should buy some plankton and get it closer to the light or buy a halide just for this....Thanks for all your replies guys. I really apreciate all your help. Mine was 40 bucks at a wholsaler. It looked kinda like rubber to me and started to turn colors. (brown) If you poke a clam it closes. Mine didn't anymore.

szwab, What other info could i give you? Let me know what i overlooked. I got it from a wholesaler and I seen it was in a row with the other clams. I don't feel it had a torn musle like you said, but anything is possible I guess. It was on a smooth surface covered in dusty dirt. When I got it home, it seemed to do well the first day and slowly started to look crappy brown. Thants about the whole story my friend. If there's anything else I could tell you, like I said let me know.... I gladly will reply.... Any help is good help! Jack
