Hydor Koralia's Noisy!

I just finished modding my tank to be more quiet and I'm really annoyed with the Koralia 3's I just purchased.

I removed a big sequence pump and went back to the dead quiet Iwaki 20 which is more than enough to push through the sump. I have a Tunze Stream 6000 which is also dead silent. I added the Koralia's for more flow lost from the Sequence Tarpon and they really do create nice gentle flow in the tank but they have a fairly load and annoying hum. They are not touching any glass surfaces other than where they are attached with the base.

I think I'm returning them. Does anyone know if the Tunze nanostreams are as loud? How do the Nanostreams stack up against the Stream 6000s?

Thanks for any direct experiences.

I have a couple Nanostream 6045's in my tank. They started out pretty loud, but quieted down after about a week. One still emits this faint buzzing noise, while the other one is almost silent.

How long have you run the Koralias for? Maybe they just need some more time to break-in and quiet down, like the Nanostreams?

Wow,

I have two 3s and they definitely are not silent. If you plug them in they pretty much double the sound from the tank which I have been trying to quiet down as much as possible lately.

Thanks for the replies.

They've only been running around 24 hours so I guess I should give them a week to really make sure. Otherwise I'm ordering another Tunze stream 6000 and putting it on a 90 degree oscillator I have.

I too have two 4's and they are silent... however, the more time I spend on RC, the more I believe that some people are just exsquisitely sensitive to noise like humming or light vibrations.

However, since your stream is silent, I don't think you are one of these people. My 4's are just as silent as any Stream.

I would return them and try out another pair. They don't need time to break in like the nanostreams. Just return them and hopefully, you'll get ones that are to your liking.

Cheers,
John H.

I don't have it on a fast switching wavemaker. I have one of mine coming on and off once every hour. So 1 hr on and 1 hr off.

I know a couple of people have had good success with the Seio multicontroller. (They have like 2-3 hydor 4's on one of the Seio multicontroller outlets.)

Cheers,
John H.

I don't think I'm too sensitive. I used to have a roar coming from my tank which is in my office / den and I couldn't even hear my wife down the hall or even talk on the phone. Now I have reduced it to mostly just a hum but the Hydor's account for about 1/2 of the noise with a loud metalic buzz. My Tunze Stream 6000 is very quiet unless you put your ear on the glass right next to it.

I guess I'll return them.
