My ph is high!!!
Hi everyone!
I am new to the hobby about six months into it. I have a fifty five gallon reef tank, with a fourty gallon refugium. Today I checked my ph and it is 8.8. I was wondering what to do to get it in the zone? I'm looking for about 8.2, but I need help to figure out how to get it there. I've never had to deal with this, usually it is to low, so I end up adding a buffer. WHAT TO DO???? |

How are you testing? Sounds to me like a testing error. Are you adding baked baking soda? That has a tendency to raise ph as well.
I would first check to see if the test result is valid. If your using a probe I would calibrate it and then retest. Regards, Pat

Need to know the type of testing you are doing. Colormetric pH tests are known to be inaccurate. Have you been dosing anything?

pure water = pH 7
baking soda = pH 8 washing soda = pH 9 calcium hydroxide = pH 12 sodium hydroxide = pH 14 this is why the pH8.2 buffer recipe calls for 6:1 baking:washing sodas
