a lots of die-off in my snad

My 70G tank has been in cycling for 3 weeks. I have about 70G uncured LR and 30G cured LR. Now a lots of die-off from LR fell in my sand bed. The sand looks so dirty. What should I do about these dirty detritus? Can I just leave it alone now, and maybe have a goby clean them later? Appreciate any feedback.

Being in the cycle stage it isn't recommend to add a clean up crew, however it doesn't mean you can't do it yourself. Fine sand is tough to vacuum but can be done if careful. The best solution is to have enough current to keep the detritus suspended long enough for the filter to remove it from the system. Strong current will also help to speed up the cycle process.

When I try to blow the detritus with 2 Maxi-jet 1200, it always cause some sand storms. Any tricks to suspend the detritus?

Thanks a lot.

I just switch to a Fine deep sand bed; Man it is a pain. Best advise... make plenty of flow on the top half of the tank. The upper water will create light currents near the sand, moving the junk and not the sand.
Its a very fine line. Also when i mean FLOW im talking 3 1500gph in my tank.

This was my main motivation for going bare bottom.

I can crank up my barracuda full blast and a few hrs later its all gone into the overflow right into my filter sock
