Tunze Wavebox Experiences
I presently have a 185g w/ a closed loop. A couple of LFS have the tunze wavebox running on their display tanks, and I have been very impressed with the back and forth water motion created by them. I am considering getting one but wanted to get everyones general viewpoint and experiences with them before I take the >$500 plunge. (I tried a search but didn't get much real world experiences). Thanks.

I opted for the Wave2k, will be here on friday so cant comment on the performance yet. This may be another option for you to consider.

Ive had my box for over 4 years. Last month the drive shaft had broken and Rodger(Tunze USA rep) pulled thru and had the parts for me right away. I now have a spare prop drive assembly just in case. But so far this thing is very reliable and customer service was great! I recommend getting the 2 magnet holders. You do need to take the wavebox out for cleaning so access for removal is helpful. Tunze recommends another pump to push detritus in the water colume. But this is a very reliable unit. I recommend it.

for people who have the wavebox:
Do you run the wavebox 24/7? or by the photocell? |

24/7 here. Never used the photocell or the feed option.

I had one on my 150 and then decided to keep that as a fowler and start a 30g reef. Well since I had it I went ahead an took it off the 150 and used it on the 30g. And ppl will say 4ft minimum 6ft ideal, but even on my 3ft tank I get over a 1inch wave. Its awesome to look at. you won't be dissapointed. Its very reliable and does not heat the tank up. I run 24/7 except for feeding.

BTW, I love my Tunze Wavebox. Big difference!!!
I just don' know if I should use the photocell or not. But, it sounds like most people are running 24/7 without the photocell. |

I think they are great. A friend of mine has one. I was so amazed I bought one too for my 150g that I'm going to setup.

Has anyone experienced any failures with the wavebox itself. Also, I read that it adds stress to the tank... Anybody seen any failures as a result specifically around the seams?
Thanks for all the feedback. So far it seems to be very positive. Personally I have been very impressed with the overall wave motion I have seen. It appears to add an element of natural motion to the tank I have yet to see replicated elsewhere. |

I already have two streams, I wonder if adding a wavebox with them would be too much.
Do any of you run your wavebox with streams to? |

How large of a wave will these create, and does it affect overflow boxes water intake? I really like the idea, but the cost and unkown effects bother me a bit.

So let me ask this question: I have an AGA 72 x 24 x 29 that has 2 overflows that are on the back wall, not in the corners but not centered either. They are the standard AGA overflows. I currently have 2 6100's and a 7095 controller. Do you think that it would be better to add another stream or add the wavebox?
Thanks

Ah, you mean the megaflows, yes? The wavebox will add more movement to the WHOLE tank, even behind rocks. As for addressing your concerns about the overflows, contact rvitko in the Tunze forums and as him what he suggests. I dont think it should be too bad though.

Wavebox is sweet. Adds a very natural motion difficult to replicate otherwise.
Caveats: You want your overflows centered in the tank. You need an inch of clearance on the topside for the wavebox. In tanks with trim/bracing this can be a problem.

I run my wavebox 24/7 with 2 6080 streams on my 180 AGA with corner overflows.
