Mandarin goby in bare bottom tank?
Is it even possible to keep a mandarin goby in my 90g bare bottom.
I have 100lb of LR and the amount of pods I have crawling around is insane! I mean there is not a single patch of LR that is not competely covered. I think I "need" a mandarin just to keep my pod population in check. I have just never seen any in BB setups and was wondering why. |

Even with loads of pods running around I would let that age a little more before getting a mandarin. In a 4 month old tank you may lose all of those pods tomorrow.
After saying that you should be able to keep a mandarin in a bare bottom with enough rock, the pods will crawl all over the bottom weather there is sand or not. Paul

Mandarin
You sure can! I moved mine from a sand 37G w/ sandbed over a year ago to a 75 BB and he is doing just fine! I have mass amounts of pods like you and he also eats MYSIS and Store bought Shrimp.

Yeah they mostly live around the rock anyway so I would definitely give it a try. They won't quickly die from starvation... he will start getting thin if there isn't enough food in the tank.
