Carbon in Refugium Sump?

This might need to go in the newbie section but I've heard of people using carbon in their sumps... can you do this in a refugium sump? I was thinking of putting it near the drain outlet where I have my baffles (maybe sticking a bag in there) or would it be best to have it over by my return? Then again, does it really matter where it's at?

Thanks in advance guys!

I just drop bags in my sump as needed, very passive but havent noticed any difference between this and running it in a canister. When I was dropping it in my refugium I would have to chape the bags of arbon out before removing, the pods seemed to love living in the mesh bag

I add the carbon to my sump where the water from the tank comes down it is almost forced throught it without creating a back up. Carbon really helped when I was curing my live rock in my tank. It took about 2 days after adding it to get the room from smelling like crap. Then it took another 2 days for the water to not have a smell to it.

I think if you keep it where there is good flow so the carbon does its job better. I keep my carbon bag in my sumps filtering bag so it gets good flow.

That would make sense... I find tons of these guys in the sponges I keep around my return pump!

And another question I have is... do people still run carbon if they have a UV sterilizer? I'm thinking about buying one and I don't know if these would tie in together or if I'd just need the sterilizer to do the job and more than the carbon could do. Maybe I'm completely off on this thought.
