Need some advice.

I am moving soon and need some advice.

1: my 25 aquapod is outgrowing itself rapidly. "Soft corals". Everything that I have had for years has recently in the past year grown triple speed with my new lighting and has tripled in size in under a year. I have a 30 gallon glass tank I was saving for something else but it is a foot longer, a little higher, and same width. I have a backpack skimmer big enough for a 75 gallon tank right now on my aquapod, including refugium and heater etc.... I have always had sump tanks never all glass. Would it be wise of me to transfer the tank and if so some advice? "especially on filteration......

Thanks!
~Chase

Most corals can be fragmented (fragged) to create several corals. There are local reef clubs all over the place. Do a search on your area and try to find a reef club you can sell/trade frags at. Or... you can take the frags to the LFS and see if you can get a deal on salt or other regular supplies.

If you want to upgrade, right on! There are so many options!!!

Just move slow... really really slow. Very little can go wrong when you do in a week that you would like to do in a day. That said, I would start almost fresh. I would take a few cups of the sand in the 25 and put it in the new tank with however much more live sand you need to get the sandbed you desire. Mix up some fresh saltwater and wait a few weeks.

With how well the corals are doing now I would be hesitant to do an immediate transfer. Get the new tank cycled then slowly move the old tank to the new tank. As far as filtration, I'm confused to what all you have. And how big will the new tank be?

When I moved away to college I transfered my 75 gallon reef to a 25 aquapod. "Kept what I could". I still have the 75 so I could set it back up and possibly will. But living in an apt. is sorta troublesome when it comes to a big fish tank.

I have at my disposal a cpr backpack skimmer, custom hang on refugium, and heater and such. What I am asking is what filteration would I use with an all glass 30 gallon long tank if I was to transfer my reef to it."no drilled sump holes".

I have never used hang on filteration on a saltwater tank and I have only seen a canister filter setup on a fish only.

So basically. If I want to provide more room for my corals would the 30 gallon glass be ok? Or should I just go back to my 75 gallon setup if at all possible?

Heres a few pictures of the life in the tank. Can't get a good shot of the entire tank because it's cube shaped. But these can start it off. sorry if they are big. I have a high pix camera.

Everything looks really nice. I have a 90g in an apartment and I haven't seen too many limitations... although the place I lived in before this one was probably too small for any aquarium at all. I would set up the 75 if it were me... the corals will have more room and it will be easier in the long run to take care of the tank.

A 30g long is what, 36 inches long? The 75 is only 12" more.

If you are going to go ahead and set up the 30g, do you have room to put a 15-20g tank under the stand for a sump? You can pick up a weir box or even make one for the overflow. It hangs on the side/back of the tank and once a siphon is started it will continue to drain. Some people attach the air line to a powerhead into the top of the weir in the case of a power loss, so it sucks the air out of the weir and starts the siphon again.
