Eheim 1260 Vibrating

I just got my pump last night and it is vibrating. Even if I suspend it in the sump so that it is not touching anything, it is very noticable. Is this typical for a new pump. I heard such good things about Eheim pumps, but so far it is just annoying me. The only thing that I have wrong is I am using 1/2" ID hose instead of 5/8" hose. I will be picking some 5/8" hose up tonight.

You should be using 3/4" or 1". If you are going to use flexible vinyl hose, use the larger fitting on the output (I assume this is in sump and you are not using an input fitting). Use whatever tubing fits well on the larger fitting.

Yeah, I purchased 3/4" ID tubing last night and it is too big for the smaller fitting and too small for the larger. I was too lazy to go back. The smaller is 5/8" and the larger is 1". It is in sump and I am not using the input. The only problem is, my J-Tube only goes up to 3/4". I might be able to get an adapter to go from 1" to 3/4" for the time being. I'm just curious as to why it is better to use the larger fitting on the output?

Larger fitting = larger tubing = more flow, less restriction. I never used those fittings on mine. I ran 3/4" and it worked well, not much if any difference when I tried 1". Again, if you are using the fittings, use whatever will fit tight on the larger one. The small one is < 3/4", which is why I wouldn't use it.

Okay, so the flow is good. Now I still have the vibration to deal with. How bad should this pump vibrate? If I hold my hand on the hose right above the outlet for a minute, my hand starts going numb. Should I try to exchange it or go with a different pump?

Yeah, I would try to get a different pump. It sounds like the impeller could be out of balance or something is bent. These pumps should not shake that much.

check the impeller. The pump should be silent.

I pulled the impeller. This is what it looks like. Possibly a manufacturing defect? What do you think?

Eeek. I'd return it for a new one (the whole pump).

That is the way it came out of the box. If I had a lathe, I would turn it down. I am going to try and exchange it.

The only thing that sucks is that I got it from Marine Depot and I live in FL. It will be 2 weeks before I see another pump.

Premium Aquatics is a lot faster for east coast people and has better return policies as well.
