my lfs has 6 tanks connected to one sump. You could possibly do it, as long as you have a large enough sump and return pump.

I have never done this, but why would it not work? The LFS's do it. Should not be any different. Just make sure the filtration system is big, and good enough to handle the load.
Just my thought.

In reality, it just becomes one really large system. With that in mind, you would have to take your filtration into consideration as everyone else has stated. But on the bright side, just look at the total system volume. Huge!

If disease breaks out into one tank thn all the tanks become diseased. Otherwise It is just like having one large tank.

i think it would be pretty nice to have a large system with multiple nano tanks and several large ones. It would not be THAT hard to manage.

I'm doing it with a 370 gallon display and a 180-212 gallon display. It's no more demanding than one large tank IMO. There is also a thread in the large tank section with twin 180s. There are more, but I can't think of them right now.
The only downside I see is paramaters. If you grow what needs clean water in one tank, such as SPS, you can't throw a lot of dirty water loving corals in the other. This is why I elected to have an SPS dominated tank and a FOWLR...
