Plumbing help
Hi, I have a AGA 125 RR that I am starting up. I just recently purchased the overflow accessory kit. The one I purchased I thought was an All Glass kit, but it wound up being an Oceanic Kit. They are almost identical except for the bulkheads I think.
I want to do hard PVC plumbing throughout, but I have been unclear for awhile now on how the bulkheads would connect to the rest of the plumbing. I thought the PVC pipe would slip into the bulkhead, but it appears from the bulkheads I received this wont work. Picture below. Is this what you would call a slip/barbed bulkhead? My question is two-fold I guess, since I want to do hard PVC plumbing What is the proper way to connect the bulkhead to the rest of the plumbing? And are these bulkheads the proper ones for how I want/should connect them? If these are not the correct bulkheads, are these? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113786 Thanks! |

Niether of those are right for hard plumbing.. This is what you want:
http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_..._strainers.asp There are two types you can use.. Double Slip Bulkhead Fitting will allow PVC on the bottom, and a slip style strainer (my personal choice). Or, you can use Standard Threaded Bulkhead Fitting (Threaded x Slip). This will allow PVC on the bottom, and a threaded strainer. Hope this helps..

or you can go to Home depot and buy a coupling.....the bulkheads you have look like slip/threaded universals....
the coupling (with teflon tape) will thread into the threaded part (going over the barb).... then you can hard plumb. |

I just used the samething....the larger side is 1.25 ID, the other is .75 ID. I couldn't find any measurments. The down pipe I came from a vinly tubbing to another hose barbe to 1" pvc. It was actually very easy and works well. Helps me keep an eye on the bubble coming down the down pipe

The nut threads don't have a taper so I would not suggest trying to thread a fitting onto them.
