GSP on crocea

I have some green star polyps that are now slowly working their way on/around the base, and up the side, of one of my croceas. Is this a problem with the foot or the byssal threads? If it is, what is the best way to fix it with out damaging the clam?

would try and cover the shell with something like black plastic to try and starve the GSP of light, don't let it touch the mantle. if the gsp gets to the point where they touch the mantle the clam will defend itself by making a thick pink skin that will begin wrapping around the shell encrusting and killing whatever it grows over. it actually happens really fast, maybe a few day but does stress the clam since it using so much to make the skin. once the gsp has died the skin will die off also. usually this happens with bubble algae, that's how thick the skin can get to completely engulf a bubble algae!
