should i go with a lumenarc 3?

hi,

my tank dimension is 30x20x20 and i'm running 2 175 watt MH with spider reflectors. i was thinking of going with a single 400 watt with a lumenarc 3. would this be better?

thanks

That's what I would do, but you could also do a single 250 if you wanted.

would a 250 be okay? i'm afraid it is not much light. i just don't want a single spot where it is bright and dim everywhere else. anyone running one of these over a tank similar in size?

Here is a 36x36x24 with a single 250 in a lumenarc.

I say go for the 400 though...

listen to this man, go 400W.

Hey, I like the look of 12kk Reefflux over the Gieseman 14kk.

my bulb options:

radium
hamilton 14k
or reeflux 12k

i like the blue look (a little). would an icecap ballast be best for this?

I'm running the Galaxy electronics by Sunlight Supply. They drive the bulb a little harder then most electronic ballasts. Supposedly they drive a radium pretty close to the same color as an HQI ballast does.

Ice Cap is a fine choice as well.

I would look for a pendant that won't waste so much light on spill-over. look at sanjays sight and find a reflector that accels at light output in a narow rectangular pattern. something like the Reef Optix I would put more light in your tank than a lumenarc 3

okay, checked the articles. looks like the reef optix 1 would cover better with a 24" area. i will probably go with the lumenarc and lower it to probably 7-8".

If that is what you are seeing in the graph then you are missing something. look again and imagine your tank in the graph. if you do that you should see that the RO1 will put much more light in your tank than a LA3
