Custom canopy--do I need to treat the inside with anything to keep it in good

condition? Or is painting the inside sufficient? Someone suggested that I should use deck stain to keep the moisture and salt from warping the wood. My canopy is made of good quality wood. Thanks

You could use a good quality Marine Paint (High Gloss White)....
or...(believe it or not)...shoe polish (use the wax ones)....maybe a brown to match the wood......

Is your hood vented? Even if it is I would treat it with something. I have 4 - 4" fans in my hood. They are on a timer that runs the fans during lighting period and 4 other times during non light period just to vent the hood. At night when my home is around 62-64 degrees the tank is still 78-80. The hood will trap moister. This will happen day in day out year round. Over time it might effect your hood. I did paint my hood with high gloss white with thoughts that the white would help reflect light.
Once again this is JMO I hope it gives you ideas and options.

I used spar varnish. In case you don't know it's a marine grade varnish designed to protect against changing temperatures and humidities.

I would use the Marine Paint which is what they use on boats.

The interior of a light hood should be a big metal reflector. 1) to prevent fires. 2) to reflect as much light as possible.
