Cloudy water?
My tank has been set up for about 3 months now...it is cycled of course and has been running fine.
The water turned cloudly about a week ago, however! It hasn't gone away. The tank used to be so clear and easy to see through. What could cause cloudy water that won't go away? My tank is 75 gallons and I have around 40 pounds of live rock currently, with more coming soon. I have 2 clowns, a small neon goby, and a three stripe damsel. |

try some carbon, but could be a bacteria/algae bloom

You determine the cause of the bloom ,try to starve it of nutrients.
Activated carbon will help if its not algae. |

Do you use a ceramic phosphate remover? Have you done anything with it lately?

Onevia,
I was just wondering because I think I have one. But, I am new to this and I do not know. The reason I suspect it is because my fish, a porcupine puffer and a triggerfish have been scratching, but have no spots. I have done 2 water changes in the past 3 days and I had rock, not live, just regular rock that had black stuff on it and I took that out thinking that might be the cause. How would I go about determining what the cause and if it is a bacteria/algae bloom? |

Try phosphate eliminator with carbon. This cleared up my algea blooms. BTW, a 50% water change might be helpful.

how long is your photoperiod. Lower this also to help control the bloom.

Ok. A couple of things here. When you have a bacteria or algee bloom it can drop your PH to dangerously low levels. Make sure you are checking your PH.
When I had a bad bacteria blomm I used some of this stuff, and it cleared up in about a day. It is reef safe, and it might be worth a shot. Just make sure you keep an eye on your PH levels!
